Yuletide Letter 2021

pluvial_poetryI'm very happy to be doing Yuletide this year, and happy to know that you love one of my favorite rare fandoms enough to offer to write in it! ♥
You should know up front that I'm ridiculously easy to please, whatever you decide to write. And I'm a big believer in optional request details being optional. I keep my Yuletide sign-up pretty bare because I don't want you to feel limited by whatever prompts I happened to come up with spur of the moment. And honestly some people are really skilled at prompting ideas, but I am not made that way. Along that vein, I really don't have one specific story that I'm dying to read for the canons I chose; the kind of idea where nothing else will do. So if you already have a fic brewing for these characters in these fandoms - write that! Seriously. I will read it and like it.
But while I don't have extremely detailed scenarios spelled out for you here, I did manage to write down some things that I like that I would enjoy seeing more of. Hopefully you can find a story to tell in that. If you need more from me (ie: clarification or detail), I'm usually never far from an internet connection, so feel free to have the mods hit me up!
My Likes: I like stories about people being in love, whether or not the story has the fairy tale happy ending. I'm a character first kind of person - plots don't hold the same importance to me. But I like people having adventures, great and small, whether they're fighting crime or going to the grocery store. I like funny, I like angsty, I like sexy, I like friendships. To that end, I am fine with either porn or gen fic, pick your poison!
My Dislikes: Try to avoid non-canon character death, animal cruelty, long suffering from disease, and sexual abuse. I like these characters and I like these canons and I'd rather not have to cry over them come Christmas morning.
And here are my requests! (in random order):
God's Own Country (2017) - The good thing about streaming is that it allows me to find the occasional gem. I had never heard of this movie until I stumbled across it in my recommendations, and I adored it. I watched it every day for a good 3 weeks. It just hit me in the sweet spot of not being too sentimental, but also being incredibly uplifting and romantic. And I know that the word of God from the actors (and possibly the director) is that Johnny and Gheorghe are not a lasting romance. I do not give a single fuck about that. I can buy that they will have arguments and that Johnny may fuck up, but I think the end of the movie is enough hope that they would be able to work it out. So if you like break-up to make-up fics, I am on that level with you. I know I saw some other prompts about how immigration laws might impact the relationship if you want to tackle something meaty like that. I would be interested in Johnny's further coming out journey. Hell, I would be happy to read about them making sheep milk cheese.
The Queen's Thief - Megan Whalen Turner - I only started reading this series 4(?) years ago but I powered through it in under a day because I loved it. And Thick as Thieves ended up being my favorite of all the novels. I just loved Costis and Kamet together. I love that whole evolution of enemies becoming friends and opposites finding out how well they complement each other. I loved the element of mythology that ran through the whole novel, and the parallels between their relationship and the one between Ennikar and Immakuk. You could write me missing scenes from their journey to Attolia, or perhaps expand on what their life in Roa is like. Return of the King also offers a lot of territory for expansion. What happened when Costis went to find Kamet and bring him back to Attolia? What are their lives like at the end of their stories? I would be excited to find out!
Harley Quinn (cartoon) - Women being villains together is my everything. Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are an old school OTP for me, from before I knew what an OTP was. And I loved this new version of their relationship. I love Ivy's world weary ambition/activism, I love Harley's zany anger. I like how they lift each other up and support one another in world domination, while also slowly realizing that they are co-dependent and in love. Maybe this is a heist story, or something where one has to rescue the other from danger. Or maybe they stay in and eat pizza and heckle their enemies on the news and make out a little. Feel free to throw in any Gotham favorites you need to flesh out your story, I am okay with appearances by anyone from the verse; Kite Man, King Shark, anyone. I would be happy with anything.
X-Factor (Comics) - Confession: I'm not a huge comics reader. But I do have a soft spot for Rictor and Shatterstar, two young guys discovering themselves and each other. I like reading about how they became friends. I like Julio closeted and pining. I like reading about how they take the next step into more than friends. I like stories where they beat up bad guys and teach Shatterstar the ways of the world. I like stories where they've grown up and figured things out. Pretty much anything goes, I'm not at all fussy about continuity with any particular run, so feel free to grab bag whatever timelines/events you like best because I love it all!
Only Murders in the Building - This show kind of came out of nowhere for me; I had zero expectations for it and ended up loving it dearly. The chemistry between every one was delicious. If you want to tackle where you think season 2 will pick up after the cliff hanger, feel free! I am excited to see how the next season of the podcast unfolds. I also would love something smaller stakes; like a missing crate of gut milk that Charles, Mabel and Oliver have to find (with Oscar's assistance). I just loved the humor and the genuine friendships, while also uncovering all the little mysteries that these characters are hiding about their pasts. It's all a delight.
The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting - K.J. Charles - I'm going to start this prompt off controversially; I think KJ Charles' novels can be hit or miss. But I ended up really loving this one. I enjoyed the cat and mouse game while Robin and John were enemies and John was trying to expose Robin's fortune hunting; I wouldn't mind some expanding on that. But I also thought the second half of the novel was quite sexy, with Robin in debt to John and offering himself in exchange. I definitely could see some possibilities there. Or you could pick up where the story left off, in their happy ending. Building their brewing empire and living quietly in the countryside. I would love a peek at their life.
And, in case I wasn't clear, any rating is welcome, from gen up to and including explicit porn. I'm really easy.
So basically, dear author, don't worry and write whatever makes you happy. Trust me, if you're happy, I'll be happy. Have fun and thanks for writing this fic!
